I think the new Hyundai Santa Cruz looks far-and-away better aesthetically than the new Titan, the new Ram Rebel, and the new Raptor.

I was in agreement right up until the Raptor. I think the Raptor is the best looking pickup on the market, period.

I think the grill on the hyundai looks a little narrow at the bottom.. or maybe it just goes down too long but its a concept so w/e . If it does go into production (which it really really should!) then I agree with you!

The Raptor doesn't look baaaaad, I guess. But I'm just not a fan of all the body-cladding-engineering on the Raptor and the Rebel. And the new Titan looks like it will be involved in more than one close shave...

My only stipulation on the Hyundai is that they don't do like the Honda Ridgeline, and hide the spare inside a compartment underneath the bed.

Looks fine like an updated El Camino, but don't compare it to the Raptor: the entire product line of Hyundai sitting on the showroom floor isn't worth one Raptor.

I'm not really feeling the Raptor. I didn't like the 1st gen either.

I respect the technology that went into them, and what they're capable of.

I just think they look like plastic toy trucks from the dollar store.

So...

I have a complex relationship with Chevy products. Generally, I've been on-board with their styling, and if not, then at least the proportions of their vehicles. They may not always look great , but they at least appeal geometrically (there's a pun hidden there, look hard).

However, I tend to hate them on the grounds that they tend to be made of poor materials, that generally don't last long. Someone will now insert "Well you just haven't driven the right ones" or "Maybe you just don't take care of your cars"... Maybe so. Maybe my expectations are too high. Maybe a company raking in billions of dollars should make a product ( or all their products ) that last longer than five years. Cheap is cheap, I'm sorry.

So I say, with a healthy amount of bias against Chevy products, that I generally like the new Colorado. I think it looks good, and I'm very much in favor of the re-birth of the small pickup truck (even if the new Colorado is more like halfway between the current Sierra and the old Colorado). I like it better than the new Tacoma. I like it better than the new Raptor. I think it looks clean, muscular, and solid - maybe a bit of Playskool in the grille area, but not nearly as much as the previously mentioned trucks.

I'm torn between whether I prefer the very, very conceptual Hyundai over the showroom-ready Colorado. I'd like to see a final, sell-able Hyundai truck before I make a final decision.

You definitely need to see the showroom ready hyundai.

If you're planning on using it as a real truck, at least in concept form, the hyundai will fail because of not having a separated cab/bed.

I get what you're saying about the quality and i hate being in the "you didn't drive the right ones" camp, but mine were pretty solid. Part of it was about expecting some mechanical - but no where near catastrophic - issues. I got rid of my 04 blazer because once a month another sensor or something would go in the 60-100$ range. It was just annoying, not devestating. I was just cracking 100k miles btw. Great maintenance on it too. The trick with those was the 4.3L would never die, just stuff attached to it would.

The Colorado I posted above is the special off road crazy bastard one they made for concept, that's not showroom.

Oh, and I definitely saw your pun. Very nice. Geo Metro's on the other hand...are not very nice.

I had an 01 Blazer LT for a couple years. When asked to describe the Blazer, this is damn near word-for-word what I'd tell people. My auto tranny lost 2nd gear, the water pump blew a gasket, the interior plastics were starting to crack and rattle, both front wheel hubs decided to destroy themselves over the course of about a month, and the rear-view mirror fell off.

The 4.3, though? Ran like a champ. Also, the 4WD system was always flawless for me.

I lost my heat every year because fucking dexcool and needing a heater core flush

then O2 sensors, and an evap leak I couldn't track down.

That was it. Literally, that was it.

Trans was great, 4x4 was unstoppable, it had options all over the place (power moonroof, 6 disc in dash CD -remember this is 04 lol)

It was a nice truck, but I was changing companies and had an hour long ride looming ahead of me. And sensors going left and right on the truck. Needed more MPG and less maintenance cost.

Switched to Ford (my only client at the time) and got a 2007 Mercury Milan V6 FWD. I've put 55k miles on it (I just cracked 90k) and it's kicking ass - and good mileage.

I wonder, sometimes, if I found a decent, low-mileage Blazer LT again, if I could live with all the stuff I didn't like about it... It was a solid ride, it was the perfect size for my needs, and having lived with it in Portland during a couple ice storms, I cannot praise that 4wd system near enough. I almost want another Blazer, JUST for that 4wd system.

You be correct.

This is what the Ridgeline should have looked like from the start.

Good job Hyundai.

In this picture you can see my first truck ever (88 S10 Blazer - 4.3L TBI, many many mods, built by hand with my dad). In the background was it's replacement the 04 Blazer I mentioned.

the 04, I don't think I'd buy again.

If I could find that 88 Blazer again though. That specific one.

HELL YEAH.

If you thought the newer gen had good 4x4, damn did I drive through stuff I shouldn't have in the blue one.
